The Department of Electrical Engineering at GITAM, Bhubaneswar, successfully organized a three-day Faculty Development Program (FDP) on “Electrical Automation” from the 23rd to the 25th of May, 2024. This program aimed to enhance the knowledge and skills of faculty members in the latest advancements and practices in electrical automation.Dr. Priyabrat Patnaik – Director, Odisha Electrical Regulatory Commission. & Prof. (Dr.) P. K. Ray – Professor, OUTR, Bhubaneswar were the resource persons for this FDP. Prof. Ray discussed the integration of renewable energy sources like solar and wind into automated electrical grids. He highlighted the challenges and solutions related to balancing supply and demand, grid stability, and the use of automation technologies to optimize renewable energy utilization. Patnaik discussed the fundamental concepts of electrical automation, including its historical evolution, current trends, and prospects. He provided insights into the regulatory aspects and the role of automation in enhancing the efficiency and reliability of electrical systems.
